PROPOSAL TECHNICAL GUIDELINES
General information and proposal guidelines for Wyoming Space Grant
Consortium (WSGC) Faculty Grants are available to be downloaded
on-line (

- be sure to read this document before beginning your proposal.
Women, faculty from other underrepresented groups, and early career
faculty are especially encouraged to apply.
Completed applications must be submitted by e-mail attachment
to: wsgc(at)uwyo.edu by NOON on the date given above
(please use the subject: "Faculty Education Grant"). Paper applications will not be accepted!

electronically to the reviewers. It is strongly recommended that you convert your
own file to PDF before submission so you can insure that the file looks as you intended
it to (we are not responsible if something gets messed up in your file when we convert
it to PDF for you) - suggestions for converting
your file to PDF. Also, there is a size limit to the proposal document that can be submitted;
the size of the proposal document is restricted to less than
2MB - suggestions for
decreasing your file size.
ELIGIBILITY
- Faculty must be U.S. citizens. Faculty who are not U.S. citizens may apply for the grant to supply salary or other support for students (who are U.S. citizens) working on the project - unfortunately none of the award may go directly to a faculty member who is not a U.S. citizen.
- Faculty must be employed by the University of Wyoming or a Wyoming community college.
- Proposals for research must be of a nationally competitive nature.
- Proposals for new course development must be in agreement with WSGC programmatic objectives.
RESEARCH INITIATION AWARD SELECTION CRITERIA
- Probability the recipient will develop a successful research program, resulting in publication and/or proposals to a federal funding agency
- Proposals with a clear set of goals with an evaluation mechanism to determine completion of said goals
- Goals in line with
NASA
National Space Grant, and the
strategic mission(s) of one or more of
NASA's
Mission Directorates:
- 2002-2006 National Space Grant Strategic Plan
- NASA's Direction for 2005 and Beyond (pdf)
- The Vision for Space Exploration
- Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate - Enable a safer, more secure, efficient, and environmentally friendly air transportation system.
- Science Mission Directorate Strategic Plan, and Roadmaps - Exploring the Earth-Sun system, our own solar system, and the universe beyond.
- Explorations Systems Mission Directorate - Direct the identification, development, and validation of exploration systems and technologies.
- Space Operations Mission Directorate - Extend the duration and boundaries of human space flight to create new opportunities for exploration and discovery.
- Proposals that include non-federal matching funds will be given priority.
- Proposals that cannot be fully funded from other sources will be given priority.
EDUCATION ENHANCEMENT AWARD SELECTION CRITERIA
- Relevance of content to space science.
- Interdisciplinary component.
- Likelihood of the course becoming a regular offering.
- Proposals that include non-federal matching funds will be given priority.
- Proposals that cannot be fully funded from other sources will be given priority.
AWARD
- Awards are usually made for summer salary up to a maximum of $20,000 (for research) or $10,000 (for education) - including benefits if used for summer salary.
- Supplies or research expenses (including wages/support for students) may also be considered.
- The award may not be used for page charges, international travel, or the purchase of equipment (following the University of Wyoming's definition of "equipment" as "any piece of Office Equipment or Computer over $1000").
EXPECTATIONS
- Recipients are expected to keep WSGC informed of their progress.
- Recipients of research awards are expected to publish their research in a refereed journal, and hold a colloquium on their research which can be arranged by WSGC or given within their department.
- Proposals for course/curriculum projects are expected to result in a new course offering or new curricular material.
- Recipients will be expected to notify WSGC of any publications resulting from WSGC funding (even if the publications are made many years after the grant period!)
