Past Recipients
Community College Transfer Scholarships
The Wyoming NASA Space Grant Consortium Community College Transfer Scholarship Program provides scholarship funds of up to $5,000 to be applied to school expenses for the 2008-2009 academic year (or can be spread over 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 academic years) for students transferring from one of the Wyoming community colleges to the University of Wyoming to pursue Bachelor of Science degrees. Recipients will be selected based on their academic record, personal essays, teacher/counselor recommendations and long-term goals. Women and minority students are strongly encouraged to apply. Application deadline for the 2008-2009 school year competition is June 6, 2008 (must have already been accepted to UW).
Past Recipients
Undergraduate Research Fellowships
Each year the Wyoming Space Grant Consortium awards fellowships to
undergraduate students attending the University of Wyoming or one of
Wyoming's community colleges to provide the student with the
opportunity to do "real" research. The program is not
restricted
to science or engineering majors - undergraduates who are interested
in space science and engineering careers gain valuable experience
participating in research projects, while non-science majors broaden
their educations with a research experience. The principle objective
of the program is to provide students with a positive rewarding
research experience. Research projects can be conducted during the
academic year or during the summer (or both).
Application Deadline is Annually in
mid-February (follow link above for more information).
Internships and Summer Research Opportunities
Internships are available from most NASA centers, and are generally open to sophomore-senior undergraduates. Many internships programs will accept community college students who plan to transfer to a 4-year program to complete their bachelor's degree.
Faculty Research and Education Enhancement Grants
The National Space Grant has two main goals concerning
faculty in higher education: 1) stress the development
of interdisciplinary courses and curriculum, including
introductory courses designed for undergraduate students
not majoring in scientific or technological disciplines;
2) provide resources to initiate research opportunities
in line with the NASA Strategic Enterprises,
especially among faculty who have not yet become
established researchers. In line with these national
objectives, the Wyoming Space Grant awards
Faculty Grants for either course
or curriculum development (Education
Enhancement Grant), or new space
science research (Research Initiation Grant).
Application deadline is mid-February annually.
Wyoming Space Grant Speakers Series
WSGC can provide small grants in support of science, technology, engineering, and math presentations at any Wyoming college. The grants (typically a few-several hundred dollars) can be used for travel, honorarium, or other expenses related with bringing a speaker to any Wyoming college. See above website for more information.
Wyoming Space Grant Minority Student Organization Support
WSGC can provide small grants in support of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) activities of minority student organizations at Wyoming colleges. The grants (typically several hundred dollars) can be used to bring speakers to club functions, travel to STEM conferences by organization members, support of STEM outreach and education activities of the club, etc. See above website for more information.
